Maine Native American History and Culture

 

Recent Maine legislation, sponsored by Penobscot Representative Donna Loring and signed into law by Governor Angus King, requires that Maine Native American history and culture be taught in all Maine elementary and secondary schools. In support of this legislation, the Hudson Museum has created three on-line activities, background information and a list of resources helpful to educators. Northeast Historic Film, based in Bucksport, is dedicating to preserving and making available a wide range of filmed materials. Of particular interest to English Language Arts teachers are film biographies of Edna St. Vincent Millay (ÒRenasanceÓ) and Sarah Orne Jewett (ÒMaster Smart WomanÓ), as well as a film version of JewettÕs short story ÒThe White Heron.Ó All films can be rented for classroom use.
