A completed application for admission consists of the Graduate School’s application form and non-refundable application fee, three letters of recommendation, official transcripts of all college work and the appropriate test scores (Graduate Record Exam, Graduate Management Admission Test or the Miller Analogies Test). The suggested deadline for applications is January 15 for the following fall, or eight weeks before classes begin in the spring or Summer Universitys. Application materials are non-returnable.

Students may apply to a regular degree program, a graduate certificate program, or as graduate non-degree students. Non-degree status is for those students with a Bachelor’s degree who have not yet decided upon a field of study. Up to twelve credits of certificate or non-degree graduate credit may be transferred into a degree program if the courses are applicable to the student’s program of study, and are within the time limit established by the Graduate School.

Registration for graduate credit in 500- and 600-level courses is restricted to students admitted to graduate degree, graduate certificate, or non-degree status. Matriculated students in good standing enrolled in other graduate schools may take graduate courses at the University of Maine if they have applied for Graduate non-degree status with the University of Maine’s Graduate School. The form is available from the Graduate School, Winslow hall. The instructor of the course is the final authority judging qualifications of a student to take a particular course.

In the case of 600-level Business courses, registration approval is required from the Director of the MBA program in the Maine Business School. The approval process requires providing GMAT scores and official transcripts with an application to the Graduate School.
