VERY SPECIAL THANKS!

The Augusta Women's History Trail was developed to meet the capstone requirement for my Bachelor of University Studies Degree. It was an independent study guided by Dr. Carol N. Toner, coordinator of the Maine Studies Certificate Program and Research Associate Professor in History. Dr. Toner teaches Women's Studies, in addition to history, and is a veteran Distance Education educator.
While the project was a self-directed study that involved a great deal of primary research, I am, nonetheless, deeply indebted to the many historians and scholars who have written the history of Augusta over the years, and, certainly, the many newspaper men and women who have written about Augusta since the late eighteenth century.

Also, I am indebted to my many friends and colleagues who have offered their support, encouragement, and expertise for the paper and the development of the Web site based on the paper. The Augusta Women's History Trail is a work that will always be "in progress." The history of Augusta is very rich, and more than a dozen topic areas are underdevelopment.  They include shoe manufacturing, women's clubs and organizations, women in retail work, abolition work and the Underground Railroad, performing arts, the humane society, and transportation, to name a few. Many will be added over the next year. The following list acknowledges those who have given their support, suggestions, resources, time, and expertise to this project. "Thank you" to all.
