Pursuing the Bachelor of University Studies
Explanation: The
Bachelor of University Studies was instituted to accomodate those who can only pursue a
degree through Continuing Education and Summer Session. Your purpose is to persuade an advisory committee of University Faculty that you are an
appropriate candidate for the B.U.S. degree. The committee's obligation is to protect the
integrity of the B.U.S. program. Consequently, you are to submit a well-written document
that relates your personal situation and educational aspirations to the Bachelor of
University Studies in such a manner as to justify your acceptance into the program. What
follows is a recommended outline guide for the document required. Each section should
be 1 to 2 paragraphs in length.
Succinct Biographical
Statement:
Provide whatever details (e.g., age, family responsibilities, work committment,
transportation difficulties, etc.) will explain your being limited to CED and Summer
Session.
Succinct
Statement of Educational Aspirations:
Explain why you wish to pursue a University degree, including any personal and/or
professional objectives you have set for yourself.
Succinct Summary of
Postsecondary Education to Date:
Relate any previous postsecondary experience to the B.U.S. in such a manner as to make the
transtion into the B.U.S. a logical next step.
Succinct Explanation for
Pursuing the B.U.S. :
Justify the choice of B.U.S. as the appropriate means for you to realize your personal
and/or professional objectives while meeting your current commitments.
Succinct Description of
Tentative Study Plan:
Indentify some of the specific acedemic areas and courses in which you intend to enroll
and explain their relevence to your previous postsecondary experience and/or professional
objectives.
